FIlmhouse Player FAQs

What is the Filmhouse Player?

The Filmhouse Player is a specially curated online viewing platform. It offers you the chance to watch new releases (available to stream alongside their screenings in the cinema), favourite films that you may have missed on the big screen, and even special films just on the Filmhouse Player. Films can be streamed anywhere in the UK and Ireland, and, where possible, they will be available in HD.

The Filmhouse Player is available as part of a pilot project, in collaboration with Glasgow Film Theatre and video-on-demand providers Distrify, supported by NESTA’s Digital R&D Fund, Scotland. You can read more about this project here.

What devices does the Filmhouse Player work on?

The Player works on PCs, Macs, tablets and mobile phones, subject to an individual user’s internet connectivity. All films can also be viewed on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch.

What kind of films will be available and how often will new content be added?

Our experienced programmers are excited to have a new platform on which to offer you a unique range of quality contemporary and classic films. With only three physical screens and limited space in our cinema programme, this is a fantastic opportunity for us to broaden our offer and make available films that audiences might otherwise not get the chance to see. We’ll add new films to the Player each month so keep up with all the Filmhouse news to get the latest updates!

How much does it cost to stream a film?

Prices start at £3.99 and the standard streaming price is just £5.00, great value if you watch as part of a group.

How do I log in or access the Player?

It’s really very simple. You just register when you first use the Filmhouse Player, put in a few details and your card payment information and then you’re ready to watch films! After you’ve registered, whenever you come back to the Filmhouse Player you can just sign in with your email address and password.

How does streaming work?

If you buy a streaming rental, you can watch the film directly in your web browser via instant streaming. You don't need any special software or hardware, you just need to be connected to the Internet – high-speed broadband or a high-speed 3G connection are recommended for streaming. You will be given 30 days to watch the film. If you get interrupted, you can pause the film and watch the rest later – you can resume viewing up to 5 times within the 30 days.

What if I have a technical problem? How do I contact you for help?

Our Player is provided by Distrify. If you have any problems viewing a film, please email quoting the order number from the email receipt you received. Or visit the Support Center on Distrify’s website.

Did you know you can share Player films via our affiliate scheme?

If you really enjoy a Player film and would like to share it with your friends and family, you can embed it on your website, blog, facebook or tumbler page and receive a 10% share of every rental made from your website. If you embed a film, Filmhouse will also receive a share of the streaming revenue - so you'll be helping out your friendly local cinema!
