German Writer and Director Edward Berger reimagines the raw account of life in the trenches which first shocked the world in 1929 in Erich Maria Remarque's best seller and the 1930 academy award winning movie.
Told from the perspective of 17-year-old German soldier Paul Bäumer (Felix Kammerer), Berger’s film begins three years into World War I — then the most brutal and bloody conflict in human history. Bolstered by propaganda and dreams of glory, Paul and his friends leave school to join the army, confident in victory. But the reality of trench warfare is more like a nightmare as they are plagued with rain, mud and terrifying, constant death.
