Part of the Il Maestro Morricone Season
Cinema Paradiso marked the first (and best!) of a great many collaborations between Tornatore and The Maestro (indeed, Morricone did not work with anyone more than he did with Tornatore, who also directed the recent epic documentary on him Ennio), a relationship that goes a long way to defining the late career of the great composer. Cinema Paradiso might be Morricone’s most romantic score – a full on, wide-eyed love letter to, no less, cinema itself. The story of a young boy who grows up in a projection booth, Morricone’s instantly recognisable, heart-breaking score is never more effective than during the films musical montage of all the ‘cut’ kisses from classic films. Nary a dry eye in the house.
