Part of the Il Maestro Morricone Season
A bounty hunter and his prisoner find shelter from the deep Wyoming winter in a cabin inhabited by a collection of nefarious characters… Quentin Tarantino seemed bound to seek out a collaboration with The Maestro at some point (given his many and varied uses of Morricone music throughout his filmmaking career and his penchant for ‘Spaghetti’) and indeed he had tried and failed to get the great man to score Inglourious Basterds. But he got him in the end (after Morricone had, reportedly, said he would never work with Tarantino), and, fittingly, not only was it the first time a Tarantino film had an actual score created for it (albeit one that borrowed unused compositions from Morricone’s score for The Thing and ‘Regan’s Theme’ from Exorcist II: The Heretic), it won him his first Academy Award® proper, to add to the Honorary one they had given him back in 2007.
