Playground

Nora (Maya Vanderbeque), an anxious 7-year-old, must return to school despite her distress and longing to stay with her dad (Karim Leklou). Finding that her older brother Abel (Günter Duret) is being tormented by other kids, Nora must decide whether to tell the adults or remain silent out of solidarity with her brother. Told almost entirely from the height of its young protagonists, the film plunges viewers into a world of seemingly unavoidable unease, grabbing us from the first frame and rarely letting up. This gripping debut from Belgian newcomer Laura Wandel marks her out as a talent to watch.
